Stonefish is a small animal with a size of 40 cm. It lives near the coast of Indian and Pacific Ocean and here are some really intersting facts about this fish.
1.They are excellent in the art of blending in.
As theirs name says the look like a rock even if you are standing right above it, seeing it could be really hard. They use this ability for hunting and hiding from predators like: sharks or sea snakes.
2.They hold the title of being world's most venemous fish.
The venom that the stonefish produces is some of the most venomous in the world and is fatal to not just marine animals but humans too. Symptoms of a stonefish sting start with big pain and swelling and if sting is left untreated it can cause heart failure.
3.They do not use venom for hunting.
Their venom comes from spines which are located on the back so it is used only when something steps on them.
4. They are able to survive out of the water for 24 hours.
Because of their cability to absorb oxygen through skin they can live on the dry land for pretty long time.
